Guiding Students to their Highest Potential
About Advancing Black Lives in Education
Advancing Black Lives in Education, Inc. (ABLE) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization focused on empowering families, particularly those who identify with the African diaspora*, to ensure their children's academic success.
We provide tailored academic intervention services that support each child’s unique learning needs. With a team of dedicated professional Interventionists, we offer one-on-one instruction designed specifically for every student to help them thrive academically.

Our hybrid model allows us to deliver our services through a mix of online and in-person instruction, making it easy for families to access high-quality educational support. At ABLE, we believe that every child has the potential to excel, and we are committed to providing the tools and guidance they need to reach their full potential.
*Let's define: African diaspora
The term "African diaspora" refers to the global communities of people who descend from the indigenous populations of Africa, particularly those who were historically displaced through migration, enslavement, or colonization. This includes individuals and families across the world, from the Americas to Europe, the Caribbean, and beyond.
Our Mission
Our mission is to empower families, primarily those who identify with the African diaspora, to actively engage in their child’s education. By offering focused, personalized academic interventions, we ensure students achieve both academic success and social-emotional growth, equipping them for future success.
Our Vision
We envision a world where families from the African diaspora can effectively advocate for schools to address their children's educational needs fully and meaningfully. Through our work, we strive to help these children recognize and use their educational talents and abilities to reach their highest academic potential. Our research-based interventions are designed to support long-term educational success and personal growth.
The Story Behind our Brand
Our logo, featuring the Sankofa bird, holds profound significance for Advancing Black Lives in Education. Sankofa is a symbol from the Akan people of Ghana, which translates to "go back and get it." The bird is depicted with its feet facing forward while its head looks backward, symbolizing the importance of learning from the past to build a better future. For ABLE, this represents our commitment to drawing from cultural heritage and past experiences to guide children toward a successful academic journey and a brighter future.
The font we use, called Martin, was created by Tré Seals and inspired by the bold typography seen in the historic civil rights march signs from the 1960s. Named after Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., this typeface embodies the spirit of advocacy, strength, and progress that drives our mission. By choosing Martin, we aim to honor the legacy of civil rights leaders while underscoring our dedication to educational equity and empowerment.
